#3 Salisbury Rattles off 15 Straight, Downs Va. Wesleyan

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 3 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team defeated Virginia Wesleyan College 23-6 on a frigid Wednesday evening at Sea Gull Stadium in a non-conference game. The Sea Gulls (3-0) have won 42 straight regular-season home games since the 2003 season. Since 2007, the Sea Gulls have won 29 consecutive games at home and 25 straight regular-season victories.

Salisbury was led by junior attacker Kim Cudmore and sophomore attacker Trish DiGirolomo as the duo scored six points apiece on four goals and two assists. Tewaaraton Trophy watch list candidate Jessica Chmielewski had another superb game as she netted two goals and passed out a game-high three assists for five points. The senior midfielder has scored nine goals and five assists through the first week of play. Cudmore also has 14 points (nine goals, five assists) after three games this season. Senior midfielder Robyn Bishop and sophomore Logan Bilderback both scored three goals and one assist against the Marlins. Freshman Sarah Clemmens was the other multiple goal scorer for the maroon and gold as she scored two goals. Junior Beth Rhodey and sophomore Meagan Osipowich added a goal and assist at attack for the Sea Gulls.

It didn't take the Sea Gull offense long to warm up to begin the game as SU scored twice in the first three minutes before VWC (0-1) snuck in a goal past goalie Sonja Stuart (two saves) at the 25:16 mark in the first half. SU scored the next four goals before Marlin midfielder Aimee Sraver scored twice in four minutes to cut the Sea Gull lead to four, 7-3. Salisbury scored the next six goals to take a 10-goal lead into halftime and continued the streak in the second half nine more times to place the game out of reach at 22-3 with nine minutes to play.

Stuart recorded her third win of the season as the senior goalie played 49 minutes before sophomore Julie Ann Caulfield (one save) entered to close out the game. VWC senior goalie Ashley Sippel stopped 11 Sea Gull shots in the loss.

Salisbury will dive back into conference action this weekend as the Sea Gulls host York (Pa.) College on Saturday, February 28, at noon.
