No. 2 Michigan Defeats No. 11 UC Santa Barbara

Michigan built their largest lead of the game under two minutes later as Riley Kearns dodged through three defenders before firing a low shovel shot for the 7-4 lead with just under six minutes left in the contest. Michigan continued to dominate possession as the clock trickled down, eventually earning a one-minute man-up after a UCSB slash on Zorovich.

Although the Wolverines failed to score, they were successful in controlling possession and working the clock down. A late goal from Santa Barbara was too little, too late and the Wolverines walked away with their second win on their early season road trip.

Statistically, Michigan won nearly every category. U-M outshot their opponent 41-24, and won the groundball battle, 44 to 32. The Wolverines were 8 of 14 on faceoffs, and finished 18 of 25 on clears, while riding UCSB to 21 for 30 totals. The Maize and Blue finished 0-3 on the man-up, while the Lax Cats scored once on four attempts.

The Wolverines will be back in three days when they travel back south to Los Angeles to take on Chapman in a re-match of last season's MCLA National Championship game on Saturday, February 28 at 7:00pm PST.
