Saints Win Big over Presbyterian on Long Island
PORT JEFFERSON STATION, N.Y. – Chris Zarins, Bryan Neufeld and Chris Roth all tallied hat-tricks as Siena defeated Presbyterian 15-2 and earned their first win of the season Sunday afternoon in Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. The Saints overwhelmed the Blue Hose with 40 shots in the game and scored the first seven goals of the game.
Siena (1-2) got on the scoreboard just nine seconds into the game when senior Scott Montgomery won the faceoff and then scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Kenny Mazzone. The Saints poured on four more goals in the first quarter to lead 5-0 after one.
Presbyterian (0-4) broke the shutout bid in the second quarter when Siena turned it over and the Blue Hose capitalized as Billy Rinaldi scored his third goal of the season to make it 7-1 with 11 minutes left in the second quarter.
Mazzone responded less than a minute later with his second goal of the season, starting a six-goal run in a 23 minute span to put the Saints up 13-1.
Siena was able to play 39 players and have all four goalies see minutes in the cage. Junior Brent Herbst made three saves and allowed one goal in 30 minutes. Backup Tom Morr stopped all four shots he faced in 15 minutes.
Senior defenseman Chris Viviano caused two turnovers and had three ground balls.
This was Zarins' fifth 5+ point game in his career.
Siena returns to action on Tuesday when they host Loyola at 1:00 p.m. The Saints defeated the Greyhounds 5-4 last year in Baltimore, Md.

PORT JEFFERSON STATION, N.Y. – Presbyterian College men's lacrosse dropped a 15-2 decision against Siena in cold, snowy weather at a neutral-site game on Sunday afternoon.
PC registered just 17 shots against the Saints, who fired of 40 of their own. Junior midfielder Sean Mulford (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield H.S.) and senior Billy Rinaldi (Hilton Head, S.C./Shades Valley H.S.) each scored for the Blue Hose in the second and fourth quarters, respectively.
The first quarter started out rocky for PC as Siena jumped scored five goals, including one on a man-up opportunity. Despite the offensive onslaught, the Blue Hose continued to put pressure on the Saints, scooping up 11 ground balls as the Saints turned the ball over nine times.
Rinaldi put PC on the board four minutes into the second quarter, after Patrick Foy (Orlando, Fla/Timber Creek H.S.) caused Siena to turn over the ball and the Blue Hose ran it to the other side of the field. Rinaldi's third goal of the season made it 7-1 with 11 minutes to go in the half. The Saints netted four more scores to end the second period up 11-1.
The Blue Hose dug in their heels in the third quarter, holding Siena to six shots and just two goals. Saints' goalkeeper Tom Morr made four saves in the third period to hold PC to one goal.
Down 13-1 in the fourth quarter, Mulford was the first player on either side to find the back of the net in the final 15 minutes. Mulford's fifth goal of the season came on an extra-man opportunity with 10:14 left in the game.

Freshman defender Tanner Gard (Orlando, Fla./Winter Springs H.S.) snatched a team-high six ground balls and caused a game-high three turnovers for PC. Junior defender Billy Schilling (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head H.S.) also contributed five ground balls to PC's total of 33.
Sophomore Jon Athens (Huntingtown, Md./Northern H.S.) made 11 saves while playing all 60 minutes in goal for the Blue Hose. By contrast, Siena had four different men guard its goal, making a total of seven saves and Brent Herbst earning the win.
PC (0-4) continues its tour of New York when the team plays Wagner on Mar. 3 on Staten Island.
