Goucher Drops Decision to Greensboro in Overtime

TOWSON, Md. -- Neal McKinney's unassisted goal 2:41 into overtime propelled Greensboro to a 12-11 victory over Goucher today.

Despite an 11-1 edge in shots in the opening 15:00, the Gophers (2-1) led just 3-1 after one period. The score was tied 4-4 at the half and 7-7 at the end of the third quarter.

Goals by freshmen Rory Averett and Matt Lynch allowed Goucher to jump back in front, 9-7, early in the fourth period, but the Pride (3-1) responded with an extra-man goal by Jose Rodriguez and an even-strength goal by Nick Patrone just :13 apart midway through the period to create a 9-9 tie.

Greensboro went ahead for the first time on a goal by John Anglin with 4:29 remaining in regulation, but the Gophers knotted the score at 11-11 on an extra-man goal by Lynch with 2:37 showing on the clock.

The Pride won the face-off to begin overtime and got off three shots before McKinney stuck the game-winning goal. From the second period on, Greensboro managed to get off 36 shots and wound up with a 37-35 advantage in that department.

Including the two saves he made in overtime, Goucher's Austin Main came up with a total of 15 stops.
