Early Lead Gives Pfeiffer Win over Queens

Charlotte, NC – The Pfeiffer University Falcons prevailed 11-10 over the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte on Thursday night in a Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse match-up. The Falcons improve to 4-1 on the season and are now 3-0 in the conference. Queens is now 2-2, both overall and in the conference.

The Falcons came out ready to play scoring a quick goal off of a free position shot by Heidi Karaskiewicz (Glen Burnie, MD). They continued their pace of scoring with Karaskiewicz leading the way with four goals in the first half.

The Royals picked up the pace after a timeout by Head Coach Meghan Dennehy when Amanda Martin (Geneva, NY), Caitlin O'Rourke (Winter Springs, FL) and Kelly Duffey (New Hope, MN) came out and scored three goals to close the half putting the game at 6-5.

The second half of play went back and forth between the two teams. Pfeiffer capitalized on multiple free position shots as the Royals continued running their offenses to find the back of the net.

Duffey was fouled and scored a free position shot at the 1:42 mark to put the Royals down by one. Queens had a chance to tie the game with a shot by Duffey that went wide.

Karaskiewicz led the Falcons with five goals on seven shots. She was followed by Sarah Hebberd (Golden, CO) and Kelly McConnell (Woodbridge, VA) who tallied two goals apiece. Hebberd also notched one assist to give her three points on the night. Krissy Bentolila (Potomac, MD) and Tory Binder (Woodstock, MD) each scored one as well. Falcon goalkeeper Caitlin Ryan (Perth, Australia) tallied 11 saves in 60 minutes of play.

Duffey led the Royals with four goals and one assist. Martin scored two goals and tallied two assists. Brittany Philip (Painted Post, NY), Kelly Wrightson (Germantown, MD), and Kristi Kemp (Lake Mary, FL) scored one goal each. Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, MD) recorded 11 saves.

Pfeiffer plays host to the Saints of Limestone on Thursday with a scheduled start of 1:00 PM.
