McKew Helps Diplomats Defeat Scranton

LANCASTER, Pa. – Mark Hild (Denver, CO/Denver East) led seven different players in scoring with a hat trick, and Colin McKew (Glen Arm, MD/Loyola-Blakefield) handed out a game-high five assists to help Franklin & Marshall defeat Scranton 10-5 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

McKew recorded four of his five assists during a 6-0 run by the Diplomats (2-2) over two quarters to take a five-goal lead heading into the final 15 minutes. F&M held on to hand the Royals (1-3) their third loss of the season.

Chris Marcozzi (Springfield, PA/Malvern Prep) finished with 10 saves in the net and anchored the defense that only allowed two goals on 17 shots in the second half.

Robby Napp registered the first three goals for Scranton, while Mike Rufo and Nick Youngstrom added a goal apiece.

Napp helped the Royals take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, wrapping two goals around Scott Hahn's (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola-Blakefield) first goal of the season. Hahn made it 1-all at the 4:20 mark, taking a shot from the right side and finding the left corner of the cage.

Hahn then found Hild for his first goal of the day to start the second quarter to bring it back to a tied game, but Napp completed a solo run to help Scranton regain the lead at 3-2. Hild made it even one more time and scored his second goal off a pass from McKew to start run to give F&M the lead for good.

McKew went on to assist Jay Ridinger (Lititz, PA/Maheim), Sean Oliver (Wilton, CT/Wilton) and Hild one more time, while Jeff Ritter (Watchung, NJ/Watchung Hills) and Ryan Whooley (Newton, MA/Roxbury Latin) tallied goals to give the Diplomats an 8-3 lead.

Whooley collected his second goal off a feed from McKew and Brett Leppert (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) was the seventh player to score on a diving shot just outside the crease for a 10-4 advantage.

Scranton scored its lone goals of the half in the fourth quarter. Youngstrom posted the lone extra-man goal of the day with 4:01 remaining.

The Diplomats won 12 of the 19 face-offs led by Sean Murphy (Towson, MD/Gilman) with a 7-for-10 performance and Andrew Setian (Williamsburg, VA/Walshingham Academy) grabbed five out of seven attempts.
