Western New England College Defeats Mount Holyoke

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Sophomore attacker Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) dished in a team high five goals as the Western New England College women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Mount Holyoke College, 17-9 in their home opener at Golden Bear Stadium on Saturday (March 7).

Western New England College (1-1) had no troubles at all on the offensive front as there were 10 different scorers.

Freshman midfielder Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) had a hat trick and senior Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) unleashed a pair of goals.

Mount Holyoke (0-1) got on the board first at 28:32 as sophomore attacker Clara Raugei (Alpharetta, GA) put one past sophomore goalie Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) on a free position shot. But that would be the only time the Lyons would lead in the game.

WNEC lead 12-4 at halftime and scored seven straight goals in the opening half.

Freshman defender Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) led WNEC with six caused turnovers and sophomore attacker Marisa Hebert (Saco, ME) had a team high 10 draw controls.

Bonitatibus finished with eight saves and sophomore goalie Erin Doherty (Westford, MA) had five for the Golden Bears.

Sophomore goalie Missy Hartley (Berthoud, CO) stopped eight shots for Mount Holyoke.
