BOSTON - The 10th-ranked Boston University lacrosse team rallied from a five-goal halftime deficit to take three different one-goal leads, but No. 12 Vanderbilt came away with a 19-18 victory over the Terriers on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field. Senior Sarah Dalton scored seven goals for the Terriers, who are now an even 2-2 on the year.

Junior Erica Baumgartner had a seven-point day with a goal and six assists, while classmates Xan Weitzel (2g, 4a) and McKinley Curro (2g, 3a) tallied six and five points, respectively. Fellow junior Traci Landy registered three goals and an assist.

The Commodores were paced by five-goal performances by freshman Alex Priddy and junior Carter Foote, while junior Sarah Downing matched Dalton for the game high in points with seven on the strength of six assists.

Vanderbilt, which also moves to 2-2, jumped out to an 8-3 lead midway through the first half and ended up entering the half with a 12-7 advantage after scoring a free-position goal with one second left before the break.

BU turned the tables in the second half, scoring eight of the game's next 10 goals to take its first lead of the contest at 15-14 with 16:03 left in regulation. The run was capped by three consecutive goals by the Terriers in a span of 43 seconds.

After the teams traded goals, the Commodores regained the lead at 17-16 with 11:47 to play, but BU used tallies from sophomore Corcoran Downey and Landy to go up by one at 18-17.

Vanderbilt, however, scored the final two goals of the game and both came from the stick of Priddy, whose free-position goal with 7:30 to play broke an 18-18 deadlock.

BU held a 23-15 advantage in draw controls, including four each from Dalton, senior Kelly Munroe and freshman Hannah Frey. Munroe recorded three of the Terriers' seven caused turnovers, but the Commodores committed just nine turnovers on the day compared to 18 by the Terriers. Vanderbilt held a 14-11 edge in ground balls.

Dalton scored all seven of her goals in a span of just over 30 minutes, as she scored three of BU's final four goals of the first half before adding four more in the first 16 minutes of play in the second half. She tied the previous single-game school record that she broke with an eight-goal effort in last Saturday's 14-13 double-overtime win at William & Mary.

Junior Rachel Klein made seven saves in goal for the Terriers, while the Vanderbilt starter Rachel Woolford made just one save on the 16 shots on goal she faced before being replaced by Natalie Wills, who did not record a save in just over 16 minutes of play.

The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday (March 11) when they visit sixth-ranked Penn for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
