Boncaro Leads Goucher Past Wooster
TOWSON, Md. -- With Kyle Boncaro having a hand in eight of the goals, Goucher made the most of a 26-shot attack to record a 13-9 non-conference victory over Wooster this afternoon.
The only point Boncaro collected in the first period was an assist on an extra-man goal by Rory Averett with 1:39 remaining that created a 3-3 tie. But in the second quarter, the Gophers outscored the Fighting Scots, 6-2, and the freshman attackman tallied three of the goals and set up goals by Jake Fratella and Averett. An unassisted goal by Brian Hoge with :26 showing on the clock boosted Goucher's lead to 9-5 at halftime.
The Gophers (3-1) went ahead 10-5 on an unassisted goal by Alex Boucher 3:53 into the third quarter, but the Fighting Scots (2-1) responded with three straight goals -- including Tim Lee's third and fourth of day -- to make the score 10-8 heading into the fourth period.
Hoge's unassisted goal with 9:37 remaining restored Goucher's lead to three goals and Boncaro concluded his five-goal, three-assist performance with a pair of goals just :32 apart to put the Gophers ahead 13-8 with 3:01 left to play.
The Fighting Scots unleashed a total of 33 shots, forcing senior goalkeeper Austin Main of the Gophers to make 11 saves.
