University of Dallas Falls at Home to Missouri Baptist
The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team was finally able to play on home turf this weekend; however, the home field advantage was not enough for this young squad to win. The Lady Crusaders team faced the Missouri Baptist University Spartans who came away with the 17-6 victory Sunday afternoon.
After being outscored 8 to 2 in the first half, UD put up a fight and tried to close the gap. Outscored by only 5 in the latter frame, the Crusaders rattled off 3 consecutive goals to climb back into it before the Spartans tightened their defense. Sophomore midfielder/attack and tri-captain Christine McFarland (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park Memorial H.S.) made 5 of the 6 goals, and finished with 4 field goals in 8 attempts and made 1 free position shot out of 2 attempts.
McFarland also had 2 groundballs, caused 2 turnovers, and led the team with 3 draw controls. Fellow senior tri-captain Becky Harris assisted on 3 goals in the game, including 2 of McFarland's, and broke the UD record of 2 assists per game held by nine others. Harris also broke the record for assists in a career with her 10th. She also added
1 ground ball, 1 draw control, and 1 caused turnover. The other captain, senior defender Cindy Parks (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier College Prep), also got into the action with 1 goal, 1 assist, 1 ground ball, 1 caused turnover, and 2 draw controls.
The Lady Crusaders lacrosse team hopes to fare better as they prepare to travel to California to play Whittier College and Pomona-Pitzer College.
The game versus Whittier on Tuesday, March 10 starts at 7:00pm, while the game against Pomona-Pitzer on Thursday, March 12 starts at 7:00pm. The team will return home for their next home game on March 17th at 4:00pm against
Sewanee.
