LANCASTER, Pa. – Shannon Summers (North Wales, PA/The Hill School) was one of 11 players who tallied a goal for Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team, recording a game-high five points with two goals and three assists to lead the No. 3 Diplomats (3-0) to a 15-4 victory over No. 19 Rowan on Tuesday.
The win marks the third consecutive for F&M and second straight over a ranked opponent to remain undefeated on the early season. Ashley Bevington (Schwenksville, PA/The Hill School) tallied the lone hat trick of the day and added an assist.
Senior captain Kelly Angstadt led the Profs (1-1) with two goals and one assist.
The Diplomats scored their first three goals on their first three shots of the day before Rowan even got a chance to get in its offensive end. Lauren Ehrhardt (Westbury, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) scored off a pass from behind the net from Summers just 58 seconds into the contest.
Meredith Lussier (Radnor, PA/Radnor) tallied the next two goals to give F&M a 3-0 lead with 3:22 gone in the first half. Lauren Crennan tallied the lone Profs goal of the half, finishing a solo run at 5:27.
The Diplomats registered the next six goals to push the lead to 9-1 at halftime. Bevington tallied her first of three in the half and then found Cat Serpe (Essex Fells, NJ/West Essex) for her first collegiate goal at 13:20 for a 5-1 lead.
Sarah Meisenberg (Severna Park, MD/Severn) took the ball the length of the field and connected with Jen Pritchard (Media, PA/Penncrest) to make it 6-1. Bevington tallied two more goals, including one after Pritchard's forced turnover on a failed clear for a eight-goal advantage with another 30 minutes of play.
F&M started the second half much like the first with three goals out of the gate and then went on to add three more for a 15-4 margin.
Katie Delaney (Silver Spring, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) and Erin Dunne (North Brunswick, NJ/Brunswick) each collected their first collegiate point with a goal and assist, respectively. Sarah Veneski (Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and Laura Ruppersberger (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's School for Girl's) found the back of the net for the first time this season.
Lidia Sanza (Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul's School for girls) and Chelsea Meerbach (York, PA/York) split time in the cage, each making four saves.
