Fourth-Ranked Limestone Levels Lees-McRae
GAFFNEY, S.C. - The No. 4-ranked Limestone College women's lacrosse team defeated Lees-McRae 24-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Saints Field. Limestone climbs to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in Conference Carolinas action while the Bobcats fall to 3-3 overall (1-3 league). The Lady Saints leapt out to 16-2 lead in the first half and outscored the visitors 8-1 in the second period.
Limestone's Casey Wilcox (Liverpool, N.Y.) posted six points from three goals and three assists. Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) also had six points from two goals and four assists. Raquel Prager (Seaford, N.Y.), Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.), and Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.) each tallied a hat trick.
Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.), Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), and Lauren Smith (Greer, S.C.) scored two goals apiece. Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada), Kelly Lalonde (Henrietta, N.Y.), and Erin Growney (Rochester, N.Y.) also contributed goals. Ilott, Lalonde, and Lickert also dished out two assists each, while Prager tallied one assist.
Howard and Growney had three draw controls apiece. Wise led Limestone with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Lady Saint goalkeepers Brigid Michling (Cockeysville, Md.) and Michaela Reynolds (Columbia, Md.) split the time in goal. Michling had two saves in the first 30 minutes, while Reynolds had one save in the second half.
Martha Peacock (Mooresville, N.C.) posted seven saves for the Bobcats. Lees-McRae's Cheryse Cox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) scored two goals, while Lauren Ochoa (Boone, N.C.) had one. Limestone outshot the visitors 32-12, and won 16 of the game's 30 draw controls. The Lady Saints had 17 ground balls compared to the Bobcats' 9.
Limestone heads to Misenheimer, N.C., to play Pfeiffer University on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
