Knights Race Past Chargers in Men's Lacrosse Action

LAURINBURG, N.C.-A trio of Knights had a hat trick on Thursday afternoon leading the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men's lacrosse team to a 15-8 non-conference victory over Dominican College (N.Y.).

Senior Marcus Kirby (Greensboro, N.C.) and the Arnold, Maryland sophomore duo of Nick Lewnes and Ryan Hoover all found the back of the net three times as the Knights improved to 2-5 on the year. Freshman Korin Pierce (Middleburg, Va.) scored a game-high four goals for the winless Chargers, who fall to 0-2.

The contest was tied two times early with the teams traded the first four goals but senior Kyle Loda (Vienna, Va.) put St. Andrews ahead for the rest of the game with a goal on an assist from Hoover with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. The Knights once again outscored the visitors 3-2 in the second quarter to build a 6-4 halftime advantage. SAPC never trailed in the game.

The Knights pulled away with a dominating 8-2 third quarter that included a pair of goals by Kirby in a one minute span and two EMO goals by Lewnes. Senior Ethan Young (Hilliard, Ohio) capped the third period outburst with his first goal of the season to increase the Knights lead to eight goals, 14-6, heading into the last stanza. Dominican produced two of the fourth quarter's three goals but St. Andrews still coasted to the seven-goal victory.

SAPC dominated play with a 56-32 shot advantage and a 53-42 ground ball edge while also winning 18-of-25 face offs. The Knights were 3-of-7 on extra-man opportunities while Dominican was 1-of-4.

Sophomore starting goalkeeper Patrick Wade (West Windsor, N.J.) picked up his second win of the season allowing six goals over 53 minutes of work while making 13 saves. Freshman backup Morgan Jennings (Poway, Calif.) made two stops in the final seven minutes.

Young helped the Knights control the tempo winning 17-of-24 face offs and picking up a game-high 11 ground balls. Senior defender TJ Dacey (Round Hill, Va.) also scooped up six ground balls.

Hoover – the reigning Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Week – added two assists to go with his three goals for a five-point day. Loda finished with two goals and one assist.

Sophomore Harrison Young (Hilliard, Ohio) had his first multi-goal game with two scores and junior Kyle Carnaggio (Pasadena, Md.) completed the Knights scoring with one goal.

Sophomore Fred Parsons (Glen Burnie, Md.) helped set up three St. Andrews goals with a trio of assists. Junior Aren Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Ryan Hauswirth (Crownville, Md.) each chipped in with one helper.

Freshman Gabe Sutherland (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) provided the Chargers with three points (2 goals, 1 assist). Sophomore goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made a game-high 15 saves.

St. Andrews next hosts American International College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
