#14 Catholic Rides Big Run to Victory over McDaniel

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Kate Robinson finished with seven points on four goals and three assists to lead Catholic to a 18-13 victory over McDaniel in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday.

The Cardinals (3-2), behind two goals and an assist from Robinson and three of Mary Swarthout's five goals, used a 8-1 run over a 21-minute, 18-second span to turn a 4-3 deficit into an 11-5 lead with 23:04 to play.

Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) matched her career high with eight points with six goals and two assists for the Green Terror (3-2), who played its third game in the last six games.

Trailing 4-3 when Baer found Jennifer Stone (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) with 16:15 showing in the first half, Swarthout connected for three straight goals over a 56-second span to give the hosts a 6-4 lead.

Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) momentarily halted the burst, converting Baer's second assist with 12:47 to play in the opening period.

Laura Haring and Sarah Lindell stretched the lead to 8-5 at the intermission before two Robinson tallies and a Katie Buonpastore marker pushed the lead to 11-6.

Scheler finished a solo run with 20:38 on the clock and Stephanie Serbun (Abington, Pa./Abington) free-position goal pulled McDaniel within 11-7 with 20:02 to play.

Consecutive goals from Swarthout and Katie Miller stretched the Catholic lead back to 16-9 before the two teams traded goals until Scheler completed her hat trick and Baer each scored in the final 1:56 of the game.

Baer tallied the first two of her goals over an opening 10 minutes that saw the teams trade goals.

Baer added four ground balls, four draw controls and a caused turnover while Stephanie Sudbrook (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) recorded six ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls.

Both teams recorded 38 shots while the Cardinals held the advantage in ground balls (30-22) and draw controls (22-7).

McDaniel returns to action at Lycoming on Tuesday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
