Falcons Trounce Bulldogs in Valentine's Day Opener

Misenheimer, NC – The Pfeiffer University men's lacrosse team opened their 2009 season up with a heartwarming Valentine's Day win against the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan College 19-4. The Falcons outshot the Bulldogs 65-32 en route to the non-conference win. The Falcons rise to 1-0 on the season, while TWC falls to 0-1.

The Falcons won the battle of the ground balls 46-25 and won 14 of 25 face offs. The team successfully cleared 16 of 17 attempts and scored on three of eight extra man opportunities.

Leading the Falcons was Chad Olsen (Great Mills, MD) with 10 points off of six goals and four assists. Olsen also grabbed nine ground balls in the game. Four Pfeiffer players tallied three points. Jameson Schultz (High Point, NC) scored two goals and handed out one assist, while Kevin Anderson (Altamonte Springs, FL) scored one and tallied two assists. Dan Mesler (Penn Yan, NY) contributed three goals and Forest Papajohn (Stafford, VA) marked one assist and two goals.

Pfeiffer starting goalkeeper Jimmy Dyches (Bel Air, MD) made nine saves and gave up four goals in 60 minutes of play.

Tennessee Wesleyan's four goals were scored at even strength by Mark Tortorello (Woodstock, GA), Elliot Woods (Cookeville, TN), Blake Harper (Knoxville, TN), and Jon Mantague (Kennesaw, GA). Johnathan Lemoine (Woodstock, GA) made 12 saves in 60 minutes of play while allowing 19 goals.
