12th-Ranked Washington College Corrals the Mules

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- 12th-ranked host Washington College jumped out to an 8-1 halftime lead en route to a 16-7 win over visiting Muhlenberg in the Centennial Conference men's lacrosse opener for both teams this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. Senior attackman Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) paced the Shoremen (5-1) with three goals and four assists.

The Shoremen broke open an early 1-1 tie by scoring seven unanswered goals to open up the 8-1 halftime lead.

Kielek was one of three Shoremen to score three goals in the win as sophomore attackman Josh Perlow (Owings Mills, MD/Boys Latin) netted three goals and one assist and sophomore attackman Shane Kaski (Richmond, VA/Midlothian) added a trio of goals of his own. Senior midfielder Casey O'Connor (Crownsville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) and sophomore midfielder Doug Herdegen (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) each scored two goals, with Herdegen adding one assist.

Junior attackman Brendan O'Leary (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) had one goal and one assist, while senior midfielder Kyle van Oostendorp (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) and senior midfielder Thayer Damm (Huntingdon Valley, PA/LaSalle) each scored one. Damm's goal was the first of his collegiate career. Senior midfielder Matt Moreton (Darnestown, MD/Northwest) contributed three assists, while freshman attackman/midfielder Dave Lundquist (West Chester, PA/Henderson), senior defenseman Eric Shea (Lutherville, MD/Towson), and senior goalie Gordon Cohen (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) each tallied one assist. The assists for Lundquist and Shea were the first of their respective collegiate careers, while Cohen's was his second.

Muhlenberg (0-4) got three goals from Nick Fletcher and two goals and one assist from Clint Watkins in the loss. Brent Siebold and Chase Nadell each scored one goal.

Cohen made eight saves and allowed five goals while playing the first three quarters in goal for the Shoremen. Washington held a 37-36 advantage in shots in the game and a 40-32 edge in ground balls.

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference home game against New England College.
