Red Dragons Fall to St. John Fisher

Junior Steve Loesch (Massapequa/Massapequa) and sophomore Andy Hilton (Rochester/Gates-Chili) each scored a pair of goals today for Oneonta State, but it wasn't enough to get past St. John Fisher this afternoon in men's lacrosse action. A 5-1 fourth period for the Cardinals allowed them to pull away from the Red Dragons en route to a 15-7 victory.

St. John Fisher (5-0) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening quarter before Oneonta (2-4) cut into the lead with a pair of unassisted goals less than one minute apart by Hilton and classmate Brian Kollar (East Islip/East Islip).

The Cardinals added a fourth goal in the first period at the 2:21 mark when junior Dave Malone (Penfield/Penfield) scored with an assist from classmate Mike Cummins (Penfield/Penfield). St. John Fisher out scored Oneonta 4-1 in the second period to take an 8-3 lead into halftime.

The lone goal of the second period for Oneonta came from sophomore Ryan Waibel (West Islip/West Islip) with an assist from senior Troy Lepore (Cortlandt/Hendrick Hudson) on a man-up opportunity.

Lepore finished the game with three assists. Junior Chris Schmidt (West Genesee/Camillus) led the Cardinals with four goals this afternoon while Malone had four assists to go with one goal.

Oneonta will travel to Rensselaer for a non conference game this Wednesday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
