Shenandoah Falls to Methodist in USA South Action

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Methodist University used a six-goal run midway through the first half Saturday afternoon to key a 17-12 USA South Conference women's lacrosse victory over host Shenandoah.

SU (1-3, 0-1 USA South) scored the game's opening goal at 28:16, but Methodist (1-5, 1-0) scored the next three to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Shenandoah would briefly stay with the Monarchs, trading a pair of goals to trail 4-3 following a Laurel Smith tally at 18:10.

Unfortunately for the hosts, MU then reeled off a 6-0 run to take a 10-3 lead with 5:30 to play in the first half.

After seeing the Monarchs take a 13-6 lead into halftime, SU got itself back into by scoring the first three goals of the second stanza, but could could get no closer.

Freshman Jasmine Stephens did most of the damage for the visitors with a game-high seven goals. She had six of those in the first 30 minutes.

Methodist outshot SU 39-33 and scooped up 33 groundballs to the Hornets 27.

MU keeper Lindsey Cosgray had 13 saves for the victors while Danielle Lawson had 10 stops for the hosts.

Kierra Nicholson paced the Hornets with three goals and one assist for four points.
