Falcons Blast Chargers to Improve Record to 5-0

Charlotte, NC – The Chargers of Dominican College may have gotten on the board first with a goal 39 seconds into the game, but the Pfeiffer University Falcons slammed their visitors with 17 goals before the days' end on a cold and rainy late Saturday afternoon men's lacrosse game. Six Falcons tallied goals en route to a 17-9 non-conference victory. Pfeiffer improves to an overall record of 5-0, while the Chargers fall to 0-3.

Pfeiffer outshot their visitors 38-25 and edged out the Chargers 38-36 in the battle of the ground balls. Dominican held the advantage in face-offs by winning 18 of 28. The Falcons transitioned out of their defensive zone well, successfully clearing 22 of 24 attempts.

One example of efficient clearing occurred with just under four minutes left in the final period when Jameson Shultz (High Point, NC) swiftly passed the ball to Kevin Anderson (Altamonte Springs, FL) who immediately fed it to a cutting Shawn Cross (Cranberry Township, PA). Cross made quick work of putting the ball past Charger goalkeeper Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY). Strong efforts could also be seen from short stick defensive midfielders Patrick Faulhaber (Apex, NC), Robert Adams (Concrod, NC), and Devon Rockey (Charlotte, NC).

The Falcons were led by Shawn Cross and Kevin Anderson who tallied seven points apiece in the game. Cross marked six goals and one assist, while Anderson handed out seven assists. In Pfeiffer's last two games Cross and Anderson have been team standouts with 13 and 17 points, respectively.

Chad Olsen (Great Mills, MD) netted four goals and added one assist for five points on the day, while Dan Mesler (Penn Yan, NY) tallied four for the Falcons off three goals and one assist. Jimmy Dyches (Abingdon, MD) made six saves with nine goals scored against in 60 minutes of play.

Leading the Chargers were Gabe Sutherland (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) and Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) with three points apiece. Brendan Bonacum made 10 saves with 17 goals against in the game.

Pfeiffer travels to Belmont Abbey on Monday for a 4:00 PM game.
