Geneseo Comes Back, Downs Western New England

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Junior Tara Murphy (St. James, NY) scored five goals and senior Maggie Morris (Massapequa, NY) added four to lead the SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team to a 14-11 victory over Western New England College in a non-league contest Monday afternoon (March 16) at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.

Sophomore Lauren Burgoon (Syracuse, NY) contributed two goals and an assist while senior Laura Kitts (Camillus, NY) scored twice for the Knights, who evened their record at 1-1.

Western New England College jumped to a 3-0 lead just 5:20 into the contest before Geneseo netted five straight goals late in the half to take a 7-5 advantage at the break.

The Golden Bears (1-3) rallied from a three-goal deficit to tie the contest at 9-9 when senior Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, MA) scored on a free position shot at the 17:15 mark.

The Knights then scored three unanswered goals, including two by Morris, for a 12-9 edge with 7:06 left in the contest.

Fenton finished with four goals for Western New England College while senior Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) and sophomore Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) each added two goals and an assist.

Freshman Liz McRoberts (Bourne, MA) also scored a pair of goals while senior Cougar Moynihan (South Glastonbury, CT) chipped in with a goal and assist.

Sophomore goalie Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) finished with 13 saves while senior Hannah McGee (Ithaca, NY) stopped 14 shots (eight in the second half) for the Knights.
