Washington & Jefferson Edges Carthage for 2nd OT Win
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior attacker Mike Frank (Potomac, Md./Landon) scored three goals, including the overtime game winner, to lift Washington & Jefferson to a 9-8 victory over Carthage (Wisc.) on Monday afternoon at Birmingham-Southern College.
The Presidents (3-1) won their second consecutive overtime game after edging BSC on Saturday by a 14-13 margin.
Junior midfielder Jackson Doyle (Northville, Mich./Northville) set up Frank for the game-winning goal with only three seconds remaining on a W&J extra-man opportunity. Doyle finished the game with one goal and two assists.
Senior attacker Zach Devilbiss (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) had his fourth-straight, multi-goal effort with two scores, while junior Matt Burns (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) and freshmen Andrew Wallick (Canton, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) and Austin Cahill (Bridgewater, N.J./Immaculata) all netted one goal.
Burns and senior James Lavery (Moreland Hills, Ohio/University) both dished out one assist. Freshman Brian Cummins (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) posted 13 saves.
Carthage fell to 1-3 overall. The Red Men are competing in their first varsity lacrosse season. W&J heads north for a game at Fontbonne (Mo.) on Thursday at 3:00 pm.
