Colorado College Tops Connecticut College in California
CLAREMONT, Calif.--Junior midfielder Kristin Rider (Wilton, Conn.) erupted with five goals and two assists to lead the Colorado College women's lacrosse team (5-1) to a 17-9 triumph over Connecticut College (1-3) on Zenda Field in Claremont Monday night.
Grace Maloney (Wilmette, Ill.) chipped in with four goals and two assists for the Tigers, who have unleashed their offensive fury with 33 goals in the past two games.
Connecticut College senior Paige Pascarelli (Wayne, Pa.) tallied two goals and an assist to lead her squad. Ali McPherson (Old Lyme, Conn.) tallied two scores in the setback for the Camels.
Katelyn Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) and McPherson buried unassisted markers early that vaulted the Camels out to a 2-0 lead. But the Tigers countered with two quick strikes 26 seconds apart to even the game at two. Pascarelli responded by rifling home a free position shot with 23:01 left in the half to put Connecticut College back on top 3-2.
But the lead would not last for long. The Tigers ended the half with four unanswered scores to find some breathing room in what was a close contest. Ali Zarlengo (Denver, Colo.) closed out the frame with consecutive tallies scored 27 second apart and Colorado College enjoyed a 6-3 lead at the break.
In the second stanza, Pascarelli pulled the Camels to within two goals with a free position at the 22:27 mark that made it an 8-6 game. But the Tigers put together a 9-0 run that included a five goal outburst in a span of 4:09 to break the game wide open. Rider scored two of the first four goals during the surge. Lindsay Chan (Orinda, Calif.) capped the rally with a free position goal at the 7:22 mark that made it a 17-6 game.
Connecticut College freshmen Diane Essis (Belchertown, Mass.), Paige Cowie (Hudson, Oh.) and Amanda Nadile (Plymouth, Mass.) each contributed with their first collegiate scores in the closing moments of action.
Senior net-minder Jess Van Doren (Boise, Id.) stopped nine shots in the win for the Tigers. Sophomore Rachel Nelson (Denver, Colo.) made six saves in the first half of action for Connecticut College. Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, Mass.) had two saves in relief duty.
The Camels will return to Zenda Field Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Athenas of Claremont McKenna. Colorado College will host Denison University Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Colorado Springs.
