Colby Holds off Wheaton for Victory
WATERVILLE, Maine -- Whit McCarthy (Darien, Conn.) had a part in five of Colby College's seven goals and the Mules' defense kept Wheaton College off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter in a 7-6 non-conference victory Tuesday night at Bill Alfond Field.
Colby improves to 3-1 heading into Saturday's 1:00 p.m. home game with Trinity College. Wheaton falls to 0-3 and also will play Trinity in its next game on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in Hartford, Conn.
McCarthy is up to 12 goals and five assists on the season after helping the Mules to a 7-3 lead with 10:33 to play in the third quarter. However, the Mules could not manage a goal the rest of the way and the Lyons scored three goals in a span of 2:24 of the third quarter to get back in the game and only trail 7-6 heading into the final 15 minutes.
Colby's defense, led by captains Jason Forino (Sudbury, Mass.) and James Brady (East Walpole, Mass.), kept the fourth quarter scoreless as the Mules hung on for the victory. Forino had four groundballs and Brady added two in front of goaltender Alex Farmer (Madison, Conn.), who had nine stops.

The Lyons went ahead 2-1 when Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass.) tallied with 9:14 to play in the first quarter and Drew Schaffer (New Haven, Conn.) added a goal with 8:21 to play.

The Mules finished a 4-0 scoring run with goals from Mark Squicciarino (Titusville, N.J.) with 10:02 to intermission off a pass from McCarthy and then Brooks set up McCarthy with another goal with 6:12 to play.
