Red Devils Down York to Improve to 4-2 on the Year

(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College men's lacrosse team outscored visiting York 6-3 in the second half to secure a 12-9 win on Wednesday afternoon.

The Devils jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Spartans rallied with four unanswered goals to take a 4-3 advantage with 12:26 remaining in the second quarter.

The teams traded goals over the remainder of the quarter with first-year Erik Norman (Poway, Calif./Poway) tying the game with 17 seconds on the clock.

The second half saw the Spartans strike first and the Devils answer with three straight to hold a 9-7 lead at the end of the third period.

The Spartans pulled within one at the 13:31 mark before Phil Caputo (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley) and Ted Sirvaitis (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) scored back-to-back in a span of 31 seconds to put the Devils in front 11-8 with 11:06 to play in the game.

Derek Still (Oreland, Pa./Penn Charter) added an extra-man goal with 8:41 on the clock to give the Devils some breathing room.

Brad Blaker tacked on a goal for York with 7:47 remaining but the Devil defense clamped down for remainder of the game.

Sirvaitis led the attack with three goals and one assist. Chris Dodson (Bethesda, Md./Landon) tallied a goal and two assists. Caputo, Still and Casey Finkelstein (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) each scored twice on the day. Bennett Albertson (Branchville, N.J./Portsmouth Abbey School) also scored while long-stick Al Golod (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) added an assist on a fastbreak.

Golod also caused three turnovers and controlled five ground balls. Chris Breslin (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) forced three turnovers and added five GBs as well to anchor the Devil defense. John Haire (Darien, Conn./Darien) picked up three ground balls as well.

First-year Shea Licata (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) won 9-of-11 face-offs and tallied five ground balls. Clark Appleby (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis) turned in a solid performance in the midfield as well. Russell Matthews (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) made 11 saves for the Devils.

Chris Collins stopped 21 shots as the Devils put 33-of-47 shots on the cage. Ryan McNicholas and Josh Gamble each scored three goals to lead York (2-4).

The Red Devils improve to 4-2 overall. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Swarthmore College in the Centennial Conference opener at 1:00 pm.
