Kirschner Leads Greensboro Romp by Virginia Wesleyan
Greensboro, NC -- Freshman Brian Kirschner (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) scored four goals and dished two assists as Greensboro College (6-1) defeated Virginia Wesleyan 13-3, on Wednesday at the Smith Turf Fields. Jordan Drumheller (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) scored two goals and had three assists for The Pride.
GC led 5-0 after the first quarter and held a 6-2 lead at halftime, The Pride exploded with six goals--and allowed just one Marlin tally--in the third period.
"We played a great first quarter," said GC Head Coach Dan Cetrone. "We stayed focused and disciplined and did the things we needed to do to be successful. I'm really proud of the team."
Neal McKinney (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) scored once and passed for two assists and Bryan Mercer (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) added two goals for GC.
GC out shot the visitors 45-22. John-Paul Novak (2-4) recorded 17 saves for the Marlins. The Pride's Mike Foderaro (Sailisbury, MD/Parkside) (6-1) had seven saves. Alex Haskins (Ballston Spa, NY/Herkimer C.C.) played the last 5:37, made one save and allowed no goals.
Jed Lynch had two goals to lead VWC. Rudy Williams (Copiague, NY/Nassau CC) had four caused turnovers to lead the GC defense. Nick Patrone (Supply, NC/Apex) scooped a game-high six ground balls and John Anglin (Hicksville/Hicksville) won 7-11 draws.
The Pride looks for its sixth straight win on Saturday at Washington & Lee. The Generals are 6-0 and ranked seventh in the current USILA DIII poll. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
