No. 7 Limestone College Past Florida Southern
Lakeland, Fl.-Thomas Langan (Potomac, Md.) had a game high four goals and Brendan Storrier (Lafayette, N.Y.) tallied 3 goals and 3 assist to lead No. 7 Limestone College past Florida Southern in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday night. The Saints opened with the game's first eight goals and would cruise to a 19-6 victory, improving to 3-2 on the season (1-1 Conference Carolinas). The loss snaps the Mocs three game winning streak as they fall to 3-2 overall (0-1 Deep South).
The Saints out shot Florida Southern, 51-21 and edged them in groundballs and face-offs. James Tuohy (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded three saves through three quarters, while Remington Steele (Dallas, Texas) tallied two saves and Mark Verrilli (Manassas, Va.) had one.
Storrier opened the scoring 2 minutes into the game, but neither team would have much success in the first quarter. Jake Rogalia (Liverpool, N.Y.) closed out the opening period, turning feeds from Storrier and Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, Md.) into two goals in 18 seconds of play. Langan would rattle off four straight goals in the second quarter and Eric Turner (Dublin, Ohio) finished a Storrier feed to push the Limestone lead to 8-0.
In the second half, Limestone had seven different players record the team's eleven goals. Storrier scored his two more goals and Rogalia finished his third of the game, while Sam Buppert (Eldersburg, Md.) and Jeff Santo (Timonium, Md.) tallied two apiece. Turner, Poerstel, James Regan (Howard County, Md.), and Kevin Nolan (Auburn, N.Y.) all recorded a goal in the second half.
Brian Zwick (Dublin, Ohio) went 7-11 at the face off X and tied Buppert for a team high 5 groundballs. The Saints extra man connected on one of two opportunities, while Florida Southern converted two of five.
Limestone will continue on its Deep South swing against St. Leo University on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
