No. 2 Adelphi Routs Georgian Court to Go 5-0

Garden City, N.Y. - Freshman Erica Devito collected a season-high six goals to guide the #2 ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 23-1 victory over Georgian Court tonight at Competition Field. The Panthers extend their record to 5-0, while the Lions drop to 3-2.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Carter made the first strike, scoring the first of her five goals just 13 seconds into the game. Devito scored five of her goals in the opening 10-0 run for the Panthers with 6:48 left in the half. Freshman Marissa Mills made it 11-0 on an unassisted goal, followed by the first of two goals for junior Vanessa Sotcheff in the 28th minute. Carter closed out the stanza on a free position goal with 1:01 left to play to push the margin to 13-0.

Carter continued her run into second half, scoring three of the next four Adelphi goals, capped by a man-down goal with 23:36 on the clock on a feed from sophomore Michelle Ceraso. Ceraso finished the contest with two goals and four assists. Freshman Alison Staudt followed with her second point of the night, 18-0.

The Lions snapped the rally on a free position goal by Natalie Bermudez in the 42nd minute. Senior Rachel Ray, who contributed four assists, picked up her lone goal just over a minute later. This spurred a 5-0 run, as junior Alyssa LaBosco had the last word, notching the final goal with 29 seconds left in regulation.

Junior goalie Caitlin Fitzpatrick made five stops in 54:16 in the net. Christine Latteri made 10 saves in the first half, while Jillian Pennington had two in the second for Georgian Court.

The Panthers are back in action this Saturday, March 21, when they host Assumption College at 2:00 p.m.
