FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University women's lacrosse team defeated Davidson College 10-5 on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. Longwood has won four straight games for the first time since the 2006 season.

Seven players scored for the Lancers, with sophomore Kesley Dean/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) leading the way with two goals and two assists. Longwood improves to 6-3 on the season while Davidson falls to 5-5. The Lancers return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Norfolk to take on Old Dominion at 4:00 p.m.

Davidson got on the board first, scoring its only goal of the first half less than three minutes into the period. Longwood answered five minutes later with Dean scoring her first goal with 22:44 remaining in the half. She scored again with 9:51 remaining to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore Cara O'Brien/Arlington, Va. (Bishop O'Connell) added one first half goal to give Longwood a 3-1 halftime lead. Longwood attempted 17 shots in the first half while Davidson attempted only seven. Sophomore Juli Liebig/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) had five saves in the first half.

Longwood scored the first two goals of the second half, the first by sophomore Karli Brentlinger/Gambrills, Md. (South River) and the second by senior Dee Warehime/Westminster, Md. (Westminster). Davidson scored three-straight goals to trim Longwood's lead to one, but Warehime scored her second goal of the game to put the Lancers ahead 6-4.

Junior Carlie Nethken/Hanover, Md. (Long Reach) scored on a free position attempt and O'Brien added another goal 17 seconds later to give Longwood an 8-4 lead. Sophomore Morgan Illian/Salisbury, Md. (Parkside) and classmate Amanda Bereznay/Gwynn Oak, Md. (Seton Keough) each scored to give Longwood a 10-4 lead. Davidson scored one goal with :07 remaining, giving the Lancers a 10-5 win.

Longwood out-shot Davidson 35-14 and edged the Wildcats in ground balls 24-18. The Lancers won 11 draws, including four each by Nethken and Brentlinger. Junior Page Farmer/Richmond, Va. (St. Catherine's) picked up five ground balls and caused two turnovers while adding one assist.

FARMVILLE, Va. - Junior Emily Rahill (Ridgewood, N.J.) had her second straight two-goal game, but Longwood countered with three players who each scored twice on its way to doubling up Davidson, 10-5, in women's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon.

Davidson suffered its second defeat in a row to fall even on the year at 5-5, while Longwood moved 6-3 overall. The Lancers avenged a 15-11 loss to the Wildcats last year on the road.

The Lancers' Kesley Dean paced all players with four points on two goals and two assists. She was followed in the stat sheet by Dee Warehime and Cara O'Brien with two goals each as well, while four other Lancers netted single goals.

Joining Rahill in the two-goal column was junior Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.), who had her seventh game of the season with at least two goals. Freshman Jenna Mugele (Baltimore, Md.) had her third game in a row with a goal to round out the Wildcats' scoring.

After Cook gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead with her 15th goal of the season, Dean came right back five minutes later with a score in the 22nd minute to even things up.

From there, both teams went scoreless for nearly 13 minutes trading possession after possession and getting off a combined eight shots.

Dean then struck again at the 9:51 mark of the first half for the go-ahead goal. Longwood would go on to get one more goal for a 3-1 lead at halftime.
