R-MC Opens ODAC Slate with Win over Bridgewater
ASHLAND, VA – Morgan Hutchinson and Emily Kent each scored three goals, while Alex Flammia made 12 saves in the cage as Randolph-Macon topped visiting ODAC foe Bridgewater 14-8 Saturday afternoon in Ashland.
BC (1-5 / 0-3 ODAC) scored two goals in the first 3:14 of the game, getting strikes from Noelle Naijar and Megan Bach to take an early 2-0 lead. R-MC (2-2 / 1-0 ODAC) reeled of five of the last six goals of the half, getting two scores from Hutchinson and single tallies from Erin Clare Cassidy, Logan Pomeroy and Laura Fox to take a slim 5-3 edge into the locker room at intermission.
Goals by Pomeroy and Amanda Rzucidlo in the opening two minutes of the second stanza pushed R-MC's lead to 7-3 before Christina Pybus and Mary Robinson scored back-to-back goals to pull BC within two at 7-5 with 25:03 left in the game.
The Yellow Jackets responded with three straight goals with two coming off the stick of Kent to extend the R-MC lead to 10-5.
BC battled back to make the score 11-7 with 8:02 on the clock, but that would be as close as they would get as Hutchinson, Fox and Kent each scored in 3-0 run, sealing the win.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Roanoke College at 4:30 p.m.
