Cincinnati Flies by Fresno State in 18-3 Rout
CINCINNATI – Laura Simanski (Reisterstown, Md./Roland Park) scored four goals to lead the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team to an 18-3 victory over visiting Fresno State on Wednesday afternoon at Nippert Stadium. The Bearcats improved their record to 5-3 with the win while Fresno State fell to 0-6 in its inaugural season of play.
Cincinnati jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first minute of play and never looked back, pushing out to a 12-1 halftime lead. UC's 18 goals in a game is the most in school history and 11 different players scored for Cincinnati. Fresno State scored a goal in the first half and put two on the scoreboard in the second half.
Simanski recorded her sixth hat trick of the season while Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Ohio), MacKenzie Parsons (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson), Ali Mattingly (Davidsonville, Md./South River), and Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, N.Y./Ohio) each scored two goals for the Bearcats.
Jenn Doran (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), Maggie Hague (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman), Shannon Lynes (Ellicott City, Md./Ohio), Lori Banky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), Gabby Sinmaz (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome), and Lauren Houck (Bel Air, Md./CM Wright) each tallied a goal against the Bulldogs. Houck also notched a career-best four assists for Cincinnati.
UC played three goalkeepers with Katherine Russo (Westminster, Md./Winters Mills) recording the victory. The Bearcats outshot Fresno State 32-8.
Cincinnati hits the road for its first BIG EAST contest, playing at Connecticut on Friday, March 27 and then playing at Syracuse on Sunday, March 29.
