No. 3 Franklin & Marshall Cruises Past McDaniel

LANCASTER, Pa – No. 3 Franklin & Marshall launched an all out assault on the McDaniel cage, winning 19-7 in Centennial Conference (CC) action Wednesday night. The Diplomats (7-0, 2-0 CC) used a total team effort with eight different players scoring. Two players reached milestones for F&M. The Green Terror (5-3, 1-1 CC) countered with a Brittany Baer led offense, but were unable to muster enough firepower to overcome F&M.

Shannon Summers set the all-time assist mark with two helpers in the win, bringing her career total to 108. Summers passed Alexis O'Meara '05 for the F&M career record, which had stood at 107.

Lidia Sanza became the eighth keeper in F&M history to stop over 300 shots in her career. Sanza ended the night saving 8-of-15 shots. She allowed seven goals.

Blake Hargest turned in three goals and dished out four assists to lead the F&M offensive. Meredith Lussier and Summers were right behind Hargest in points, each scoring four goals and tallying two assists.

Franklin & Marshall ran out to a 10-1 lead, broken up by Baer's unassisted marker at 21:01. Baer factored in McDaniel's first six goals of the night. She finished the evening with four goals and dished out two assists. Lindsey McDonald, Lisa Jurd and Brittany Lines all scored a goal for the Green Terror.

In additional to her scoring prowess, Baer had three draw controls for McDaniel. F&M won 15 of the nights 28 draws. The Dips out shot McDaniel 35 to 19 and outworked the Terror on the ground 25 to 17. The Diplomats bottled up McDaniel's transition allowing eight clears on 18 attempts.

The Diplomats will travel to Ursinus for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday.

LANCASTER, Pa. – Blake Hargest recorded a team-high seven points on three goals and four assists to lead third-ranked Franklin & Marshall to a 19-7 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.

The Diplomats (7-0, 2-0 CC) – behind a pair of four-goal performances by Meredith Lussier and Shannon Summers – used a 7-0 run in the second half to turn a 12-6 advantage into a 19-6 lead to remain undefeated on the season.

Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) had a hand in six of the seven goals for the Green Terror (5-3, 1-1 CC), netting four goals to go with two assists.

Cat Serpe finished a solo run for Franklin & Marshall 3:29 into the game to spark a 4-0 burst over the next 3 minutes, 44 seconds to open up a four-goal advantage before eight minutes had elapsed in the game. Hargest had a goal and an assist during the opening run.

Baer broke up the early run, tallying unassisted at the 21:01 mark before the Diplomat attack went back to work and scored six straight to take a 10-1 lead with 2:38 remaining in the first stanza.

Lussier keyed the stretch with a goal and two assists while Hargest contributed two goals and Summers added a goal and an assist. Baer finished a Lindsey McDonald (Germantown, Md./Damascus) feed at the 2:02 mark before finding Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) with three seconds to play in the opening half.

Two Baer goals and a McDonald marker helped pull the visitors within 12-6 with 24:03 to play but Franklin & Marshall needed only 13 minutes, 27 seconds to score seven goals and seal the win.

Summers tallied three goals during the span, while Hargest contributed three helpers. Lisa Jurd (Columbia, Md./Hammond) tallied her first goal of the season with 7:56 on the clock to set the final margin.

The Green Terror returns to action at Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
