Amherst Pulls Away for 13-6 Win Over Skidmore

AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College women's lacrosse team picked up a 13-6 win over visiting non-conference foe Skidmore College this evening at Gooding Field in Amherst, Mass. The Lord Jeffs never trailed in the game, improving to 4-2 with the win, while the Thoroughbreds dropped to 3-2 with the loss.

Amherst jumped out to a commanding 5-0 lead over the first 15 minutes of the game. During the scoring run, the Lord Jeffs received a trio of goals from sophomore Kelley Trapp (Monterey, CA), while senior quad-captain Mary noonan (W. Roxbury, MA) added a goal and had two assists during the run.

Amherst's first, and fifth, goals each came off feeds from behind the net, as first-year Allie Horwitz (Woodbridge, CT) found classmate Lindsey Moran (Upper Montclair, NJ) and then Trapp for her two assists of the night.

Skidmore responded with a three consecutive goals to end the first half trailing just 5-3. After Abbie Klaus scooped up and dumped a ground ball past Amherst goalie Lamia Harik (Rye Brook, NY) with 11:58 to play in the first half, Skidmore got two straight foals from Lauren McCarthy to end the stanza.

Amherst scored three of the first four goals of the second half to break the game open, and never looked back. Trapp had a hand in two of those three goals, assisting to noonan, before scoring a free-position goal with 24:05 to play. Lauren Madden scored on an FPS for Skidmore, before Moran responded with an FPS goal for Amherst.

The Lord Jeffs scored four straight goals over a 10-minute period of the second half to take a 12-5 lead, with just 8:56 to play. noonan scored another pair during the run, as Amherst cruised towards the win. As the final whistle blew, noonan and Trapp each had four goals and two assists to power the Amherst offense, while Skidmore saw six different players score their goals.

Harik finished the day with nine saves, while Courtney DeStefano made 10 saves in net for the Thoroughbreds. Amherst will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Lewiston, Maine to face off against Bates College in NESCAC action.
