Dominican College Downs Kean for First Victory

Orangeburg, NY (3/26/09) -- The Dominican College women's lacrosse team won their first game of the 2009 season after defeating visiting Kean University, 17-14 this afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

Kean got on the board first with a free position goal, but the Lady Chargers quickly rebounded with a free position goal of the own to tie the game at 1-1 early in the first half. After another KU goal, DC went on a 4-0 run to take a 5-2 lead. Kean went on to outscore Dominican 7-5 in the final 16 minutes of the first half to trail 10-9 at the break.

KU wasted no time in tying the game 10-10 early in the second half. Both teams traded goals over the four minutes until the Lady Chargers netted four answered goals to take a 16-12 lead with 12:39 left in the game. Kean put together a 2-0 run, but DC closed out the game with a goal to hang on to the 17-14 win.

Freshman midfielder Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) led the Lady Chargers with six points (4 goals, 2 assists). Sophomore attacker Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) had five points (4 goals, 1 assist), while Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) and Ashley Ordemann (Toms River, NJ) each had four points, with Karlsen netting four goals and Ordemann had three goals and one assist.

Goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) had 10 saves in the win. Dominican improves to 1-4 overall.

DC is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Wilmington University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's lacrosse action. Game time is slated for 12:00 pm.
