NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The best rivalry in New England Small College Athletic Conference women's lacrosse over the past few years just added another classic game as eighth-ranked Colby College took a 10-9 double overtime victory over fifth-ranked Middlebury College at Yale University on Friday.

Colby, which just had a win over nationally top-ranked Salisbury University on Tuesday, got a goal from Kathleen Kramer (Norwell, Mass.) in sudden-death overtime to give the Mules (6-1, 3-1 NESCAC) the victory. Middlebury falls to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The last three meetings between the two teams have been spectacular. Middlebury won the NESCAC title with a hard-fought win over the Mules two years ago in the title game. The Mules then ended Middlebury's 88-game home win streak last year in a NESCAC semifinal game.

Kramer scored at the 70:53 mark of the game off a pass from three-time All-American Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.). The two teams had each scored a goal in the mandatory six-minute overtime session, where play must be completed. Kramer scored on a free position shot 1:50 into the session, but Middlebury tied the game at 9-9 when Elizabeth Garry (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) scored off an assist from Caroline Kirkendoll (Telluride, Colo.) at 65:12 of the game.

Colby sent the game into overtime with two goals in the final 7:45 of regulation. Kramer, who had the biggest game of her collegiate career, scored the second of her four goals off a pass from Sheridan with 7:45 to play to make it an 8-7 Middlebury lead. Sheridan had the assist again when Alison Iannotti (North Haven, Conn.) tallied with just 2:37 to play in regulation.

Sheridan finished with two goals and four assists, while Lauren Barrett (Fairfield, Conn.) scored on two free position shots for the Mules. Heather Nickerson (Falmouth, Mass.) also tallied for the winners.

Garry had three goals to lead Middlebury, while Sally Ryan (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) had one goal and two assists. Dana Heritage (Cheshire, Conn.) finished with two goals, Kirkendoll had one goal and one assist, and Lucy Jackson (Bronxville, N.Y.) and Lindsay Winstead (Chevy Chase, Md.) had one goal apiece.

Sarah Warnke (Lakeville, Conn.) had 17 saves in net for Colby. Blair Bowie (Washington, D.C.) also played well with 15 stops.
