No. 2 Hamilton Breezes by Vassar in Liberty League Play
CLINTON, N.Y. -- Hamilton College scored the first eight goals and the nationally ranked No. 2 Continentals cruised to an 18-6 win against visiting Vassar College in a Liberty League women's lacrosse game played at Campus Road Athletic Field on March 27.
Audrey Nebergall '10 came off the bench to score a game-high four goals for Hamilton (5-1 overall, 1-0 Liberty), which won its third straight game. Anne Graveley '11 chipped in three goals and two assists, and Kaillie Briscoe '09 added two goals and four assists.
Liz Rave '10 notched three goals and Kate Marek '09 contributed two goals, one assist and three caused turnovers. Sarah Bray '11 picked up eight ground balls. Kate Fowler '10 made seven saves before she was replaced by Sam Elie '12 with 14:38 left in the second half. Elie stopped three shots.
Elizabeth Feltch '12 led Vassar (3-3, 0-1) with two goals, two assists and three ground balls. Sarah Warner '11 scored her team-high 14th goal to go with three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Nicole Engelhardt '11 made 12 saves in 38 minutes and Heather Kesselman '12 stopped two shots.
Seven different players scored for the Continentals during their game-opening run. Graveley had two goals and Briscoe had one goal and three assists. Feltch and Warner scored one goal apiece in the last 2:21 of the first half to pull the Brewers within 8-2 at the break. Becca Green '11 scored 30 seconds into the second half for Hamilton and Briscoe made the score 10-2 with her 13th goal with 27:46 left in regulation. Vassar never really threatened again.
The Continentals enjoyed a 42-18 advantage in shots and held a 25-15 edge in ground balls. The Brewers were credited with 25 turnovers.
Hamilton improved to 12-0 all-time against Vassar. The Continentals have won 25 in a row at home and 21 straight against league opponents.
