No. 9 Bentley Downs Saint Michael's to Win Third Straight

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior attack Kevin Gould (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) scored four goals, and senior goalie Kris Dambach (Chester, N.J./West Morris Central) made 17 saves and kept Saint Michael's off the scoreboard for nearly 49 minutes as No. 9 Bentley University bested the Purple Knights 13-3 on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse play for its third straight win.

Bentley led 12-0 at the end of the third quarter and Dambach had a shutout in his sights, but a goal by Bryan Zaremba for Saint Michael's with 4:57 gone in the fourth quarter broke it up.

The Falcons only scored twice in the first quarter, getting tallies from senior Chris Woods (Duxbury, Mass./Sandwich) and sophomore Steve Murray (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) just past the midway point of the quarter.

Bentley though did most of its damage in the second and third quarters, scoring five in both quarters. Senior Andrew Smulligan (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) scored just 11 seconds into the second quarter, and freshman Brendan Grant (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) scored the first of his two at the 9:20 mark. Junior Wyatt Couture (South Hadley, Mass./Avon Old Farms) found the back the net with 3:39 remaining to make the score 5-0.

Gould tacked on two more goals in the final 1:28 of the half, with Grant notching the first of his four assists on the first one. The freshman has made an immediate impact for the Falcons this season, scoring eight goals and handing out nine assists in his first four career games.

The third quarter was more of the same with Gould scoring twice, Couture adding one, and sophomores Mike MacDonald (East Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) and Matt Boilard (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) each scoring as well.

The 17 saves is a career-high for Dambach, who stopped several good looks from Saint Michael's in winning his third game of the season.

The win improves Bentley's record to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the NE-10. They'll host American International on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
