SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) netted a career-high five goals to lead McDaniel to a 15-13 victory over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) added four goals for the Green Terror (6-3, 2-1 CC), who scored the first seven goals of the second half to turn a 7-6 halftime deficit into a 13-7 lead with 12:25 to play.
Amy Vachel and Emily Evans tallied four goals apiece to pace the Garnet (6-2, 0-2 CC), who scored five goals in a 4-minute, 15-second span to pull within 14-13 with 1:29 to play.
Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) scored 1:12 into the second half to even the game at 7-all before Lines and Bear combined for the next five tallies.
Two Baer goals 55 seconds apart gave McDaniel a 9-7 lead before Lines sandwiched a pair of markers around a Baer free-position shot to stretch the lead to 12-7. Sarah Mintz (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) capped the stretch.
Evans broke up the run with a free-position goal at the 6:52 mark before Mintz scored again 51 seconds later. Two Vachel goals keyed the 5-0 burst that pulled the hosts within one but Mintz tallied just before the horn to set the final margin.
Lines opened the scoring 56 seconds into the game before Marissa Schaffer and Vachel gave Swarthmore a 2-1 lead with 25:37 to play in the opening half. Two Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) goals and single tallies from Lines and Baer accounted for a 4-1 burst that gave the Green Terror a 5-3 advantage with 9:35 showing.
Two Evans goals evened the game before Marie Mutryn gave the Garnet a one-goal lead. Lines and Vachel traded tallies in the final 40 seconds to keep it a one-goal game at the break.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Tuesday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
