Dove Reaches Mileston in #8 Syracuse's Win over Bearcats

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Junior Christina Dove (Bel Air, Md.) recorded five points and became the third player in school history to score 200 points in her career as the No. 8 Syracuse women's lacrosse team defeated Cincinnati, 23-7, in the Carrier Dome on March 29. The win extended the Orange's BIG EAST regular-season winning streak to 12, dating back to the 2007 season.

"It was a good weekend for us," said Syracuse head coach Gary Gait. "It was a nice chance to demonstrate what we have been working on in practice."

Dove scored the Orange's first goal of the game and then found the back of the net again at the 25:25 mark for her 200th career point. She joins teammate Katie Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) and Leigh-Ann Zimmer (2001-04) as the only players to reach the 200-point plateau in their careers. Dove finished with four goals and an assist, giving her 204 points in 50 career games.

"It's a huge honor," Dove said of reaching the milestone. "I'm just glad I can help my team win as many games as possible."

Syracuse (8-2, 3-0) took control of the game early, outscoring Cincinnati (5-5, 0-2), 9-1, in the first 20 minutes of the game. The Orange led by as many as 15 in the second half as it scored a season-high 23 goals.

Eleven different players scored goals for Syracuse. Rowan and junior Halley Quillinan (Glenmont, N.Y.) each recorded hat tricks, while seniors Awehiyo Thomas (Six Nations, Ontario) and Bridget Looney (Silver Spring, Md.), and sophomore Lindsey Connell (Tyngsboro, Mass.) had two goals each.

Senior Megan Mosenson (Malvern, Pa.) and juniors Sarah Sedgwick (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Jackie DePetris (Radnor, Pa.) also found the back of the net. Rowan had three assists on the day to give her a team-high six points, and sophomore Tee Ladouceur (Slingerlands, N.Y.) dished out a career-high four assists to go along with two goals. In addition, Thomas has two assists, while Looney, Dove and Mosenson had one apiece.

Several players recorded their first career points in the win. Freshman Kelsey Nangle (Auburn, N.Y.) scored two goals, while freshmen Sarah Holden (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Heather Wentz (West Chester, Pa.) each recorded assists.

Syracuse outshot Cincinnati, 40-13, and held a 20-11 advantage in draw controls. The Orange picked up 19 ground balls to 12 for the Bearcats, and Syracuse caused 23 Cincinnati turnovers. Sophomore Liz Hogan (Victor, N.Y.) made three saves in goal for the Orange.

Syracuse goes back on the road for a pair of BIG EAST games next weekend. The Orange plays at No. 6 Georgetown on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and at No. 13 Loyola on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. –The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team lost, 23-7, to No. 8 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Sunday afternoon. Syracuse improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in BIG EAST play while Cincinnati is now 5-5 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST action.

Syracuse took control of the game early, outscoring Cincinnati, 9-1, in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Ohio) scored UC's first goal at the 28:27 mark of the first period. A goal by Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, N.Y./Ohio) and an own goal by Syracuse gave UC its three goals in the first period.

Laura Simanski (Reisterstown, Md./Roland Park), Natalie Starvaggi (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), Ali Mattingly (Davidsonville, Md./South River), and MacKenzie Parsons (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) each scored a goal for the Bearcats in the second period.

Syracuse outshot Cincinnati, 40-13, and held a 20-11 advantage in draw controls. Katherine Russo (Westminster, Md./Winters Mills) recorded 10 saves in goal for the Bearcats.

Cincinnati returns to Nippert Stadium for its next four games, taking on No. 9 Notre Dame in a BIG EAST contest on Friday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m.
