BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Sophomores Katy Dissinger (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) and Ingrid Oelschlager (Roanoke, Va.) scored four goals apiece as Bowdoin College had its biggest offensive day in 16 years, defeating the University of Southern Maine, 23-7, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Sunday afternoon.

The win was the third straight for the Polar Bears who improve to 6-3 overall. The 23 goals scored are the most by the Polar Bears in a game since they tallied 24 against Wittenberg in 1993. The Huskies had their two-game win streak stopped and fall back to .500 at 2-2.

Dissinger and Oelschlager also each had an assist to finish the game with five points. Rookie Katie Stewart (Chevy Chase, Md.) had three goals and two assists for a five-point day. Freshman Chelsea Albright (East Lyme, Conn.) chipped in three goals. Senior goalie Steph Collins-Finn (Menands, N.Y.) recorded seven saves over 48 minutes before giving way to junior Sarah Marston (Charlotte, Vt.) who was not called upon to make a save.

Junior Jessica Knight (Alfred, Maine/Massabesic) led Southern Maine with four goals scored while sophomore Mary Vaughan (Brunswick, Maine/Pomfret School) contributed a goal and an assist. Sophomore Rachel Lolley (Gorham, Maine) had 12 saves.

Bowdoin scored the game's first three goals before Vaughan put USM on the board. Knight scored three times in the first half to keep the visitors within striking distance, but Oelschlager, Dissinger (two goals) and freshman Elizabeth Clegg (Hudson, Ohio) scored the final four goals as Bowdoin opened a 13-5 lead at halftime.

Each team scored twice in the opening nine minutes for the second half to make it 15-7. USM would not score in the final 21 minutes as Bowdoin ran off eight unanswered goals to account for the final tally.

Southern Maine returns to action Tuesday evening (7:00 p.m.) when it hosts St. Joseph's College at Memorial Field in Portland. Bowdoin will host in-state conference rival Colby College under the lights on Wednesday (7:00 p.m.)
