Knights Coast by Bobcats for Third Straight Victory

LAURINBURG, N.C. - Sophomore Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.) scored a career-high five goals to lead the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team to a 19-4 Conference Carolinas victory over Lees-McRae College on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Knights, who are receiving votes in the IWLCA National Top-10 poll for a second straight week, won their third game of the week to improve to 8-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference. SAPC has set a new-school record for wins in a season in the program's six year history surpassing last year's seven-win total. SAPC has outscored its opponents 65-6 during its current three-game win streak.

Senior starting goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) made all seven of her saves in the first half keeping a potent Bobcats offense that features the leagues leader in goals off the scoreboard in the opening 30 minutes. McCaffrey (8-4) picked up her 25th career victory allowing just two goals to freshman Cheryse Cox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) in 40 minutes of work.

St. Andrews dominated all parts of the game including a 41-14 shot advantage and a 25-12 ground ball edge. The Knights won majority of the draw controls, 16-9, while committing six fewer turnovers, 19-13.

Senior Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) scored 28 seconds into the game as St. Andrews led from the opening minute. Wright netted scored a natural hat trick with the games first three goals in the opening 10 minutes en route to her five point performance that included four goals and one assist.

Wright, McDaniel, and junior Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) all had a hat trick by halftime as the Knights held a commanding 11-0 lead at the intermission. St. Andrews scored the first three goals of the second half to extend its lead to 14 goals before Cheryse Cox broke up the shutout bid with 24 minutes and 15 seconds left. Cheryse Cox scored her two goals in a 76 second span while her older sister, sophomore Desiree Cox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) scored the Bobcats other two goals late in the game. Desiree Cox posted her 49th and 50th goals of the season to lead the conference.

Brown, who ranks in the top-10 in the nation in points per game, finished with four goals and two assists. Freshman Cara Manas (Harwood, Md.) also had six points with a trio of goals and three helpers. Senior Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) had one goal and two assists.

The Lady Knights also got goals off the sticks of senior Courtney Ross (Newark, N.Y.) and freshman Nina Capuano (Lusby, Md.) while sophomore Allie Faulhaber (Apex, N.C.) and freshman Anna Egeln (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) chipped in with one assist.

Courtney Ross had game-high totals of three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Her younger sister, freshman Chelsea Ross (Newark, N.Y.), and McDaniel both collected four ground balls.

Lees-McRae sophomore backstop Martha Peacock (Mooresville, N.C.) had a game-high 10 saves but took the loss allowing 19 goals. St. Andrews visits Conference Carolinas rival Belmont Abbey College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. before Lees-McRae host the Crusaders in their next game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
