Pfeiffer Outgunned by Molloy in Maryland
Molloy College jumped on the board two minutes into the game and followed the goal up with another 30 seconds later. The Falcons responded by getting on the board with a goal from Kelly McConnell (Woodbridge, VA) six minutes into the game. The teams spent the next 18 minutes trading goals to bring the score to 6-4 with Molloy leading. Pfeiffer then score three goals, two by McConnell, in the last four and a half minutes to take the lead 7-6 going into the break.
Molloy started the second half by scoring three goals in six minutes. Sarah Hebberd (Golden, CO) responded with a woman-down goal to get the Falcons scoring again. Pfeiffer managed to tie the game at 10-10 off a goal by Krissy Bentolila (Potomac, MD), but Molloy responded 30 seconds later with a goal of its own. Tory Binder (Woodstock, MD) brought the Falcons within one with three minutes remaining, but the Lions secured their win with an assurance goal in the final 30 seconds of the game.
Pfeiffer won 19 of 31 ground balls, but only six of 21 draw controls. The Falcons were outshot 33-24 and tallied 33 fouls compared to Molloy's 18. Pfeiffer committed eight turnovers with two being forced, while four of Molloy's 12 turnovers were caused by the Falcons.
Bentolila led the Falcons with five points off of two goals and three assists. McConnell and Heidi Karaszkiewicz (Glen Burnie, MD) tallied four goals apiece. Amanda Smith (Leesburg, VA) led the Falcon fight for ground balls by grabbing four. Goalkeeper Caitlin Ryan (Perth, Australia) made eight saves and allowed 14 goals against in 60 minutes of play.
The Lions were led by Lori Sollitto (Wantagh, NY), Kristie Sosnowski (Massapequa Park, NY), and Rebecca LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY) who each put three goals past the Falcon net minder. Goalkeeper Alicia Frisch (Lindenhurst, NY) made eight saves in the game allowing 12 goals against.
