Pfeiffer Drops High-Scoring Match to No. 3 C.W. Post
Pfeiffer managed to get on the board first against the Pioneers when Karaszkiewicz scored an unassisted goal one minute into the game. The Pioneers responded with a fury, outscoring the Falcons 9-5 in the first half. Bentolila and McConnell put two goals apiece past the Post goalkeeper.
The Pioneers continued to frustrate the Falcons by opening up the second half with four goals. At three different times in the second half C.W. Post led by as many as eight goals, but the Falcons refused to give up and continuously fought back. Liz Melesh (Annapolis, MD) and Smith each scored woman-down goals in Pfeiffer's strong offensive push in the final ten minutes of the game. The Pioneers edged out Pfeiffer 9-8 in second half scoring.
The Falcons led 28-26 in shots and dominated ground balls 19-11. C.W. Post controlled the draw winning 21 of 33. Pfeiffer committed 18 fouls compared to C.W Post's 25. The Falcons caused seven of the Pioneer's 24 turnovers, while C.W. Post caused five of Pfeiffer's 20.
Bentolila led the Falcons again in game two, this time tallying seven points off of four goals and three assists. McConnell, Melesh, and Alex Cook (Commack, NY) had two goals apiece. Erin Looney (Annapolis, MD) grabbed six ground balls for the Falcons. Ryan made five saves in 60 minutes of play.
Three of C.W. Post's players marked five points on the day. Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, NY) and Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, NY) both had four goals and one assist. Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, NY) tallied two goals and handed out three assists. Goalkeeper Sam Powers (Holbrook, NY) played 58 minutes for the win making 11 saves.
The Falcons travel to play Conference Carolinas foe Limestone on Saturday.
