Buffalo State Edges Brockport to Win Seventh Straight
BUFFALO, NY - Katie Henderson (Lakeview/Frontier) scored with 29 seconds remaining to lift Buffalo State (7-1/1-0) to a 15-14 victory over visiting Brockport (0-6/0-1) in the SUNYAC opener for both teams today at Coyer Field. The win stretches the Bengals' unbeaten streak to seven games, tying a school record set in 2005 and 2007.
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) led Buffalo State with three goals and four assists. Henderson finished with four goals and one assist and Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) had three goals and an assist. Mariah DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo), Leanna Pace (Niskayuna/Niskayuna), Marilyn Kush (East Aurora/East Aurora), Jennifer Tierney (Massapequa/Massapequa) and Kelly Nelson (Hamburg/Frontier) each chipped in one goal.
The Golden Eagles scored the first two goals of the game, but Buffalo State responded and took a 9-7 lead into intermission. The second half featured five ties, including a Brockport goal with 1:13 left to knot things at 14 apiece, before Henderson found the back of the net for the game winner. Buffalo State outshot Brockport, 33-24.
Buffalo State is back in action Saturday when it hosts Potsdam at 1:00 p.m.
