Dominican College Falls to Georgian Court University

Orangeburg, NY (3/31/09) -- The visiting Lions of Georgian Court University improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating the Lady Chargers of Dominican College, 20-6, this afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

GCU opened up the game with a 2-0 spurt, before the Lady Chargers got on the board with a free position goal from freshman Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ). The Lions then roared back with seven consecutive goals in a span of just under three and a half minutes to take a 9-1 lead.

Dominican was able to go on a 3-0 run, as sophomore attacker Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) netted two goals and freshman Alycia Shillingford (Cape May, NJ) added a goal to cut the Lions lead to 9-4. GCU closed out the half with another 5-0 run to extend their lead to 14-4.

The Lions continued to dominate the offensive game, outscoring Dominican 6-2 in the second half, including a 4-0 run. The last goal of the game came off the stick of Lady Charger Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) with 0:16 left in regulation.

Three Lions finished with five points in the game as Kara Sanford (Pine Beach, NJ) netted two goals and three assists, Ryan McGrath (Manasquan, NJ) had three goals and two assists and sophomore Lauren Conaty (Pt. Pleasant, NJ) scored four goals and one assist in the win.

Williams paced Dominican with three points (two goals, one assist), while Matos finished with two goals. Junior goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) had 10 saves in the loss.

With the loss Dominican falls to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the CACC.
