New England College Downs Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. Senior attacker Brandi Vittum (Woodstuck, Vt.) recorded eight points on six goals and a pair of assists to lead the New England College women's lacrosse team to an 18-8 victory over Nichols College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Vendetti Field Tuesday evening.

Senior midfielder Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) added four goals and an assist for the Pilgrims, who draw even at 2-2 in conference action and improve to 2-4 overall. First-year attacker Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) led the Bison (1-3, 0-3 TCCC) with five points on four goals and an assist.

New England College jumped out to an early lead, scoring five goals within the first 10 minutes of the game, including the contest's first marker just 26 seconds into it, an unassisted score from Vittum.

Nichols' Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.) put the Bison on the board at the 17:49 mark, and the teams traded goals before the Pilgrims hit eight-straight for a 14-2 advantage. Bison first-year attacker Anna Schmitt (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored just as the first half expired for a 14-3 halftime ledger.

Nichols came out firing in the second half, rattling off three goals in the opening six minutes, but two goals from Vittum and another from Dresser put the Pilgrims back up, 17-6 at the 17:31 mark. Forand capped the scoring at 7:25 with a free-position goal, her second of the half.

First-year keeper Mary Michaud (Agawam, Mass.) made two saves in 31 minutes of action, while classmate Danielle Mott (Cranston, R.I.) stopped two shots in just under 29 minutes between the pipes.

Alexandra DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) made three saves in the first half to earn the win before giving way to Amanda Murdock (Bradford, N.H.), who finished with two saves in the final 30 minutes.

The Pilgrims held a 19-16 groundball advantage, and outshot their hosts, 25-18. New England College turned the ball over 24 times to Nichols' 27, and held a slim advantage in draw controls at 14-13.

Nichols takes a break from conference play for a 7:00 p.m. home game against Fitchburg State Thursday evening. New England College hosts Colby-Sawyer for a 1:00 p.m. TCCC game Saturday.
