Top-Ranked Salisbury Smothers Ursinus in CC Play
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Top-ranked Salisbury hammered out 45 shots in a 24-6 win over Ursinus on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse play.
Salisbury (11-1) got four goals from Ashleigh Gender and three goals each from Meagan Osipowich and Beth Rhodey in the win. The Sea Gulls had 13 different players score.
For Ursinus (1-8), the Bears got three goals from sophomore attack Lindsay Urban (Doylestown, PA/CB East) and two goals from freshman midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, PA/Upper Perkiomen). Junior midfielder Elizabeth Cannon (Garrison, NY/James I. O'Neil) had a goal and an assist, with senior midfielder Lisa Clark (Media, PA/Penncrest) and senior attack Jenna Werley (Springfield, PA/Springfield) also adding assists.
Sophomore defender Kim Johnson (Sewell, NJ/Clearview Regional) had two caused turnovers for the Bears, while Thren and freshman midfielder Kim Peifer (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) had three draw controls. Sophomore midfielder Hannah Kuranz (Landenberg, PA/Sanford) also had three draw controls for the Bears.
In goal, junior Alex McBride (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had eight saves in the first half, with sophomore Emma Bacharach (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) netting five saves in the second.
Ursinus hosts Bryn Mawr on Thursday.

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The No. 1 Salisbury University women's lacrosse defeated Ursinus College 24-6 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening. The Sea Gulls (11-1) used a balanced scoring attack as 13 different players found the back of the net.
Salisbury opened up the scoring in prime condition as it scored the game's first five goals before Ursinus (1-8) scored a goal. Salisbury continued to control the game as it led 13-5 at the half.
Four different Sea Gulls had four-point performances including senior midfielder Ashleigh Gender (four goals, five draw controls), junior attacker Beth Rhodey (three goals, one assist), sophomore attacker Meagan Osipowich (three goals, one assist) and freshman Sarah Clemmens (two goals, two assists). The Sea Gulls had a pair of three-point games from sophomore attacker Trish DiGirolomo and freshman Carrie Bray (four draw controls) who each scored one goal and recorded two assists.
SU had three players score twice including senior midfielder Robyn Bishop and freshmen midfielders Alyssa Fowler and Allie Wheatley. Salisbury received one goal from Logan Bilderback (one assist), Stephanie Cahill, Amanda Holsclaw (one assist) and Aileen McCausland. Senior midfielder Courtney Sorenson and freshman attacker Georgi Porter each dished out one assist. Senior goalkeeper Sonja Stuart (five saves) played the entire game as she scooped up a team-high five ground balls.
Ursinus received a valiant performance from Lindsay Urban as the sophomore netted three goals. Alyssa Thren (two goals) and Elizabeth Cannon (one goal, one assist) scored the other goals for the Bears. Goalie Alex McBride (eight saves) records the loss for the Bears as she started and allowed 13 goals in the opening half. Emma Bacharach played the second half and made five saves and allowed 11 Sea Gull goals.
SU will return home and host No. 18 St. Mary's (Md.) College on Saturday, April 4, in a pivotal Capital Athletic Conference game. The Sea Gulls and Seahawks met three times last season as SU swept the series. The two squads met in the CAC championship game and the NCAA tournament regional semifinal.
