Mary Washington Falls to No. 11 Catholic

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-9 decision to visiting 11th ranked Catholic University on Wednesday at the Battleground. UMW falls to 8-5 on the season.

After the Eagles gained a 3-2 lead early thanks to a pair of goals from freshman Allie Kimmelman and one from Catherine Kennedy, Catholic used an 11 minute span of the first half to score seven unanswered goals to take a 9-3 advantage, and extended the lead to 13-4 at halftime.

In the second half, a pair of Milner scores cut the deficit to seven, at 15-8, with 23:32 to play, but could draw no closer. Milner led UMW with five goals, while Kimmelman added three goals and two assists. Catholic was led by Katie Buonpastore, who had two goals and nine assists, and Kate Robinson and Katie Miller, who each scored five goals.

Catholic outshot the Eagles, 37-21, and had 20 draw controls to 11 for UMW. Freshman goalie Danni Guigli had 14 saves for Mary Washington, while Melissa Brashear had six saves for the Cardinals.

Mary Washington will host York College in a Capital Athletic Conference game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
