Hamilton Falls to Oneonta in Overtime

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Blair Hanson '12 scored his third goal of the game with 1:58 left in overtime to lift SUNY Oneonta to a 9-8 non-league win against host Hamilton College in a men's lacrosse game played at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 1.

Scott Weiner '10, who finished with one goal and two assists, was credited with the assist on Hanson's game-winner. Dennis Headrick '09 scored three goals and leads the Red Dragons with 12. Nick Murray '09 made nine saves.

Franke Holiber '10 paced the Hamilton offense with three goals. Jon Leanos '12 chipped in three assists and five ground balls. Leanos leads the team with nine assists and 18 points. Paul Citarella '12 won 6-of-9 faceoffs. Max Vaickus '12 stopped 10 shots.

Oneonta (4-4 overall) grabbed a 1-0 lead 45 seconds into the first quarter on a goal by Hanson. The Continentals came back to take a 3-2 advantage at the end of the quarter thanks to two goals by Holiber and one by Stephen Lefebvre '11.

The Red Dragons scored all three goals in the second quarter to reclaim the lead at 5-3 at the break. Hamilton responded with three straight goals to open the third quarter. Holiber's ninth goal this season while the Continentals were playing a man down put Hamilton up 6-5 with 7:19 left in the quarter.

Oneonta surged ahead again on goals by Headrick and Dave Gaber '10 just 26 seconds apart late in the third. Gaber's first goal this season with 2:19 left made the score 7-6. The Continentals tied the score on a goal by Alex Hodgens with one second remaining in the quarter.

Weiner gave the Red Dragons a one-goal lead with his seventh with 8:41 left in the fourth. Hamilton tied the score at 8-8 on the fifth goal this year by Andy Simon '09 with 3:09 remaining.

The Continentals (2-5) held a 46-30 advantage in shots, including 19-3 in the first quarter, and owned a 32-28 edge in ground balls. Hamilton has lost five in a row after opening the season with two wins. The Continentals still own a 19-9 lead in the all-time series with Oneonta.
