No. 15 Washington & Lee Pitches Shutout vs. Hollins

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team opened up an 8-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game as W&L cruised to a 20-0 victory over Hollins on Wednesday evening at Watt Field.

First-year attacker Alexis Harrison (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) opened the scoring for the Generals (8-4, 5-1 ODAC) when she tallied a goal off an assists from senior midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) just 13 seconds into the contest. Senior attacker Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) made it 2-0 when she scored off a feed from Harrison at the 29:01 mark.

First-year Christina Benedetti (Derwood, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) scored unassisted at 28:16 to make it 3-0 and junior attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) made it 4-0 following a pass from first-year midfielder Maddie McKaig (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis). Benedetti , sophomore midfielder Wilton Megargel (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) and Harrison tallied unassisted goals to push the lead to 7-0 as W&L cruised to the shutout.

Harrison and McKaig each tallied five points on two goals and three assists, while sophomore attacker Kate Speare (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and first-year attacker Alli Shearin (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex) scored three goals and recorded two assists apiece. Benedetti added a team-high four goals.

First-year Jennifer Linder (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) played the entire 60:00 in goal and recorded one save.

For Hollins(1-4, 0-2), junior goalkeeper Tegan Urbanski (Swarthmore, Pa./Linden Hall) played all 60:00 between the pipes and notched 11 saves. Junior midfielder Kimme Lockett (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) notced Hollins' only shot of the day.

W&L returns to action on April 11, when it hosts Randolph-Macon for a 1:00 pm game.
