Sheridan Reaches 250 Points as #3 Colby Tops Bowdoin
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Kate Sheridan reached another milestone for the third-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team and teammate Amy Campbell had five goals in leading the Mules to a 17-10 victory over Bowdoin College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Wednesday night.
Sheridan, already the program's all-time leading scorer, had two goals and five assists to surpass 250 career points. The three-time All-American has 163 goals and 89 assists for 252 points. Sheridan needs just four more goals to tie and five to break the Colby career goals record of Margaret Mauran '91, who had 167 from 1988 to 1991.
Colby moves to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in NESCAC play heading into Saturday's noon home game with Wesleyan University. Bowdoin falls to 6-4 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Campbell went over 60 career goals in three seasons with 61 goals and 12 assists for 73 points. Meanwhile, senior All-American Becky Julian moved to within one goal of 100 for her career after scoring twice. Julian is looking to become the 10th player in program history to score 100 goals in their career. Current Colby teammates Sheridan and Lauren Barrett are two of the nine with 100 goals or more.
With the game tied 2-2, Colby went on a 4-1 scoring run and never allowed Bowdoin to get closer than two goals the rest of the way. Campbell had two goals during that time to give the Mules a 7-4 lead.
The Mules took a 10-7 lead at halftime and then scored the opening goal of the half. Bowdoin responded with two straight goals to cut the margin to 11-9 with 22:13 to play. Colby went on a 5-0 scoring run from that point to pull away.
Kathleen Kramer, the NESCAC Player of the Week for last week, added three goals and one assist. She has nine goals and two assists in the last three games. Heather Nickerson finished with a pair of goals, Caroline Atwater had one goal and one assist, and the Mules got one goal from Barrett and Cary Finnegan.
Sarah Warnke stopped 11 shots in goal for the Mules.

The Mules improve to 7-1 (4-1 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears dip to 6-4 (1-4 NESCAC) on the season.
The teams traded goals in the early going as the teams combined for six goals in the opening 8:24. Tied at 3-3, Colby's Amy Campbell scored twice in a 3-0 spurt for the Mules that gave the visitors a lead they would never relinquish. Colby was able to push their first-half advantage to four goals, 10-6, before Bowdoin's Liz Clegg scored with 14 seconds remaining in the period to trim the lead to 10-7 at the break.
Bowdoin was able to close the gap to two goals, 11-9, when rookies Katie Herter and Clegg scored consecutive goals early in the second half, but Colby responded with their decisive 5-0 run. Heather Nickerson started the run with a tally at 20:19 and when she closed the spurt with another score at 9:16, the Mules had pushed their lead to 16-9. Cary Finnegan, Caroline Atwater and Campbell also found the back of the net in the run.
